About Yoga

Yoga is a system developed more than 5,000 years ago which involves more than the physical aspect. It is a science and a philosophy.  Many think of it as a religion and that is totally untrue. With the attention to physical practice, individuals can discover truths that lie buried deep within each of us. As we learn to free those hidden parts, our true nature has a chance to blossom and we can develop into a healthy, wholesome individual who is free of judgement and fear and see that love resides in each and everyone of us.

The yoga system I teach is based on my own experience of years of studying yoga based on physical alignment, or the Lyengar Tradition.  Each person has a tendency to use one side of their body more than the other. With focus on alignment, we learn to become more aware of the weaker side, encouraging strength and flexibility as we move into, and then gently hold, a posture. The more we hold the posture the more we feel where we can make adjustments for better health and movement.

Breath and balance are an important part of the yoga practice. And, the best indicator of its working is after our class or home practice, when we feel how much more freedom we experience with movement.
