Jobless Support Groups

Coordinator: Walt Doering, Ed.D.

Christ Lutheran Church created Jobless Support Groups ministry for the jobless in our community. The purpose of the support group ministry:

• provide emotional support in a job search
• encourage members to share what is working, what is not working, and discover what needs to be done differently to obtain employment
• obtain pertinent information, which to enhance the ability to acquire employment

In a Jobless Support Group, participants learn more about

• marketing oneself
• designing a job search plan
• creating a résumé
• developing a network
• mining for leads
• managing the interview
• coping with stress
• landing a job

Note: Other relevant information is shared with participants depending on their wants and needs.

Dr. Walt Doering, who has extensive professional experience working with jobless workers, serves as coordinator of the groups. This ministry meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month. It has served more than 40 persons and is currently not able to add more participants.
